Located in the Vega-Valdavia region, Saldaña is a municipality with a rich historical heritage that was declared a Historical Artistic Site in 1996. Highlights include the ruins of the Castle of the Counts of Saldaña and the nearby Cueva de San Patricio an ancient rock-hewn hermitage. The town features medieval squares such as Plaza Vieja, Plaza del Trigo, and Plaza de España, where the Town Hall is located. The ancestral home of the Marquis of Valdavia and the Casa Torcida, a 16th-century civil building, also stand out.
The Church of San Pedro, which houses the Museum of La Olmeda, and the Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Valley, the local patron, are important religious sites. The Sanctuary, dating from the 16th-17th centuries, hosts the "Fiesta of the Virgin of the Valley" every September 8. Saldaña is a place where history is felt in every corner.
